Let’s Talk Pets and Camping

Eighty-five percent of campers travel with their pets.  We instantly think of dogs as the standard travel companion, but we have seen many pets over the years.  We happen to travel with a 110-pound dog and a cat that get lots of attention when we walk thru the park, both on leashes.  More uncommon than a cat on a leash, we have seen people with pigs, birds & even monkeys as travel companions!

Here at Bay Hide Away we are a very pet friendly place.   After purchasing the park, one of the first things we did was install a large pet park.  It is centrally located, with a portion under a large live oak tree that offers shade, with a place to relax on a hot summer day.  At the opposite end of the park we have a bench to soak up some sun while your pet plays.  We have a pet waste station for your convenience as well.

Speaking of waste, let’s talk poo.  It’s a dirty job, but someone’s gotta do it.  Why are parks so adamant about owners picking up after their pets?  Well the obvious reasons are that no one wants to step in poop. As responsible pet owners, we all have to pick up after them, but let’s do some math.  If we have thirty pets in our park and they do their business just one time a day over the course of a week that would be TWO HUNDRED AND TEN piles, a virtual mine field of poop!  We ask you to please pick up after your pet, not just in our pet park, but anywhere in the park, including our trails.  If you are walking in an area, someone else will be too.

 

 

A final word on our furry friends.  Do you wonder why some parks don’t allow specific breeds of pets into their park?  Does it seem like they are discriminating to your best friend? It doesn’t seem fair because you have an extremely well-behaved dog, follow all the rules, keep Fido on leash outside of your camper and you still get turned away?  Well unfortunately it isn’t necessarily the choice of the campground owner.  Insurance companies often dictate what parks will allow, so go easy on a park owner if they say that they don’t allow a specific breed of pet.  It’s likely out of their hands.

Bay Hide Away RV Park is the perfect destination on the coast.  The Mississippi Gulf coast is known as the “Secret Coast” because you won’t find all the crowds you do in the towns and beaches of other Gulf Coast areas.

Bay Hide Away gets its name because of their location in the town of Bay St Louis and it sits off the road, hidden away from the sites and sounds of traffic.  You will find a small well-kept park with generous sized full-hook up sites.  The bath house is connected by the laundry room and is immaculately kept, there’s none cleaner than at Bay Hid Away. There is plenty to do on-site with a clubhouse that seats 40, with a 65” TV to catch all the games or your favorite shows.  Although disconnecting should be your goal, they are upgrading to fiber internet, so you can stay connected if you bring work along or want to show off the great time you are having on social media. The large covered pavilion will more than double your seating boasting a beautiful stone fireplace and overlooks the swimming pool. If you enjoy a bit more activity, there is a 9-hole Frisbee golf course (discs available) and a playground for the little ones.

 

If you want to get out and explore you won’t be disappointed, you are a quick 40 minutes to the French Quarter and all that New Orleans has to offer as well as 40 minutes to Biloxi with shopping & casinos, but you don’t have to travel to find things to do. Only four miles and one stop sign are between you and the white sand beaches of the Gulf as well as the closest casino with the “Best Buffet in Mississippi”.  The beaches are pet friendly, so Fido can play off leash!  If you like to see wildlife, don’t miss taking in a Swamp Tour of the Pearl River or catch a dolphin show at Ocean Adventures. 

If shopping and dining are more your cup of tea, Old Town Bay St Louis is a must! Taking the beach road won’t disappoint, roll down your window and enjoy the 25mph speed limit allowing you to take in the sites of the beautiful beach as well as the homes along the way. Downtown is lined with unique shops and restaurants; no chains here.  Instead you will find an eclectic artsy vibe.  A Second Saturday Art Walk showcases the area and the many artists that call Bay St Louis home. Enjoy several restaurants with plenty of seafood and live entertainment along with outdoor dining.
